chamber promotes ag education through farm to table dinner

Williston, N.D. - The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce’s (WACC) Agriculture Committee, in partnership with the Williams County Soil Conservation District (SCD), is pleased to present the third annual Farm to Table Dinner on Wednesday, June 28.

What began as a small gathering on a local farm has now grown to a large-scale event at the SCD Tree Shed that aims to educate the public about the vast agriculture industry that surrounds them.

Farm to Table is an immersive, educational experience, allowing attendees to taste food that is representative of commodities in the Williston area; to interact with farm equipment; to see a demonstration from TrainND-Northwest illustrating how drones are used within the industry; and to hear from a 4th-generation farmer and rancher, Calli Thorne.

“I’m always excited when I get the opportunity to share our family story and our diverse role in agriculture with others. Being able to connect with consumers and share how we care for our animals and the land is something I’m incredibly proud of,” said Thorne, farmer/rancher at Triangle M Ranch & Feedlot.

Multiple partners have come together to make this a reality and to truly offer a farm-to-table meal. First, attendees will enjoy locally-brewed beer - and root beer - from Busted Knuckle Brewery as well as wine from North Dakota vineyards, Pointe of View in Burlington and Fluffy Fields in Dickinson, while trying a variety of different seed oils. Doc Holliday’s will cater the meal featuring lamb meatballs using product from Cornell Farms, pea pasta from AGT Foods, brisket which represents local ranches, hummus - a popular chickpea product - and a couscous salad with Lentil Crunchers from our friends to the west, Farver Farms in Scobey, Montana. Williston’s new bakery, Whisk It Good, will treat guests to a variety of gluten-free desserts using chickpea flour from 41 Grains in Circle, Montana.

This interactive event has become one that people anticipate and that the WACC Ag Committee hopes to continue to offer and grow for years to come.

“This event is something very near and dear to our hearts as we are always striving to better bridge the gap between agriculture. This is a fun filled way to do that by having locally sourced items that are grown right here in our own backyards,” said Molly Jugovic, SCD District Manager and WACC Ag Committee Vice Chair.
