CONNECTUS THERAPY TO HOST NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION SPEAKER 

Williston, N.D. - The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce (WACC) is pleased to announce its support for ConnectUs Therapy and the ConnectUs Foundation as they host nationally renowned speaker, Kevin Hines, during National Suicide Prevention Month. 

Kevin Hines is one of only 34 people in history to survive a suicide attempt of jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Now a best-selling author, global public speaker, and an award-winning documentary filmmaker, Kevin has since found joy and meaning in sharing his story of survival and encouraging others to live their lives to the fullest with his message of hope and striving for mental wellness. 

This free, public event is in conjunction with ConnectUs Therapy’s 5th Annual “Not Today” event, a suicide prevention awareness campaign for youth aimed at ensuring our kids will #BeHereTomorrow, on September 20, 2023.

Who: Open to the public at no charge 

Why: To increase awareness of suicide prevention efforts as well as spread a message of hope and inspire joy in life

Kevin Hines: Kevin was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 19 and attempted to end his own life by jumping off of the Golden State Bridge two years later. Thankfully, his attempt was unsuccessful, and he became one of only 34 to survive the fall throughout history. Kevin has since found joy and meaning in sharing his story of survival and encouraging others to live their lives to the fullest with his message of hope and striving for mental wellness.  

He released his bestselling memoir titled “Cracked Not Broken, Surviving and Thriving After a Suicide Attempt” in the summer of 2013. In 2018, Kevin executive produced and directed the award-winning documentary “Suicide the Ripple Effect,’ which was released worldwide. Most recently this month, Kevin has launched his newest book, “The Art of Being Broken: How Storytelling Saves Lives.” 

Kevin’s work has touched the lives of millions around the globe, including thousands who have reached out to him to say that his story helped to save their lives. Join us at Williston High School as Kevin shares his heart wrenching story about mental anguish, survival, and ultimately thriving by tapping into the uncrushable power that is the human spirit.
