Are you ready for this year’s election cycle? There are important elections and measures on the ballots this year. Please utilize this comprehensive guide for all things regarding 2024 elections in North Dakota.

  • In the state of North Dakota, eligible voters must meet the following criteria:

    • Voter is a citizen of the United States

    • A resident of ND for more than 30 days

    • 18 years of age or older

    • Possess a valid ID including the following:

      • ND Dept. of Transportation driver’s license

      • DOT Nondriver ID card

      • Tribal government issued ID

      • Long-term care ID certificate provided by a valid ND facility

    • June 11, 2024 - Primary Election

    • November 5, 2024 - General Election

    **POLLING HOURS: 8:00AM-7:00PM CT**

  • Polls will be open from 8:00 am – 7:00 pm CT on June 11th, 2024. If you are not sure what precinct you reside, you can find that information on the Precinct and Polling Locations Map.

  • What is Absentee Voting?

    Absentee voting means you can cast your ballot prior to Election Day, but your vote won’t be tallied until Election Day.

    How do I get an Absentee Ballot?

    To receive an absentee ballot, you must first complete an Absentee Ballot Application. Applications are only valid from January 1st to December 31st each year. You MUST re-apply each year to be able to vote absentee in an election.

Measures on the ballot

Not only are elections for deciding which candidate will represent the voters on local, state, and federal levels, it is also a time to vote on measures proposed by the legislature and the public to amend the Constitution of North Dakota.

PRIMARY BALLOT measures

  • Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 4001 -

    "A concurrent resolution to amend and reenact sections 12 and 13 of article IX of the Constitution of North Dakota, relating to terminology describing public institutions."

    Summary:

    The proposed amendment will replace outdated language to refer to people living with mental illnesses and other disabilities that may be deemed insensitive. Examples of the changes in language include:

    - Replacing "dumb" with "hard of hearing"
    - Replacing terms such as "insane" and "feebleminded" to "individuals with mental illness" and "individuals with developmental disabilities"

  • Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 4013 -

    "A concurrent resolution to amend and reenact sections 2, 3, 4, and 9 of article III of the Constitution of North Dakota, relating to the process for approving initiated constitutional amendments, the requirement of a single subject for each petition and measure, the individuals able to circulate a petition, and the requirement that all ballot measures must be voted on at the primary and general election."

    Summary:

    The proposed amendments to the Constitution of North Dakota allows for more clarity on who is allowed to circulate petitions and how many are required to sign a petition. It also specifies that each proposed amendment must be limited to one subject.

  • House Concurrent Resolution No. 3033 -

    "A concurrent resolution to amend and reenact section 26 of article X of the Constitution of North Dakota, relating to spending and transfers from the legacy fund."


    Summary:

    The amendment proposed would offer clarification on the set principal of the legacy fund. It also establishes a timeline for distributions from the legacy fund into a legacy earnings fund as occurring each July 1st of every odd-numbered year.

  • Item descriptioFrom the petition:"This initiated measure creates a new article in the North Dakota Constitution entitled “Congressional Age Limits.” Under this Article, no person may be elected or appointed to serve a term or a portion of a term representing North Dakota in the U.S. Senate or the U.S. House of Representatives if that person could be 81 years old by December 31 of the year immediately preceding the end of the term, and any such person is prohibited from appearing on the ballot."

    Summary:This petition aims to set a maximum age of 80 for any Senator or Representative of North Dakota.

  • City Measure No. 1
    The cities of Epping (Precinct 62), Grenora (Precinct 67), Ray (Precinct 63), Tioga (Precinct 64), Wildrose (Precinct 65), and Williston (Precincts 13, 21, 23, 31, 33, 41, 43, and 51) will have the following measure on the ballot as Measure No. 1:

    According to state law, once every four years each city must place on its ballot the question of whether or not the minutes of the governing body shall be published in its official city newspaper. If approved, the minutes must be published until disapproved by the voters at a succeeding election.

    This city measure will show up on the ballot as written above with the selection of a Yes/No vote:

  • City of Williston Measure No. 2
    MOSQUITO CONTROL CHARGE; CONTINUATION OF $4.00 PER MONTH PER OCCUPIED UNIT

    Shall the City of Williston continue to be authorized to charge four dollars ($4.00) per month per occupied unit on the water bill for the mosquito control effort, to sunset after June 2028.

    From Williams County

  • Williams County Measure No. 1
    Shall the Williams County Board of County Commissioners be authorized to extend the current one percent (1.00%) sales and use tax being imposed throughout Williams County for ten (10) years beginning April 1st, 2025 to be dedicated as follows:

    - Public safety (supplemental funding to public safety departments and agencies)
    - Sports, recreation and community facilities
    - Behavioral and rural health programs and facilities
    - Capital improvements to enhance social and economic vitality in Williams County

    Such sales and use tax revenues may be pledged to the payment of bonds issued for such purposes in anticipation of the collection and receipt of such sales and use tax, and if so pledged, the sales and use tax may not be repealed so long as any such bonds or bonds refunding the bonds are outstanding.

    This county measure will show up on the ballot as written above with the selection of a Yes/No vote:
