CHAMBER RECOGNIZES EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR  

Williston, N.D. - The Western Star Foundation (WSF), an organization of the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce (WACC), recognized area educators of the 2022-2023 school year during national Teacher Appreciation Week.  

The WSF Leadership & Education Committee hosted its annual Teacher Appreciation Reception at the Williston ARC on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. The evening featured updates from the event’s Gold Sponsors, CHI St. Alexius Health Williston and Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative, ‘90s-themed Name That Tune with Ashley Oyloe from House of Style, giveaways, food, fun, and several very special awards. 

With 37 teachers nominated in three categories – Teacher of the Year, Principal of the Year, and Support Professional of the Year (aka the Apple Award) - it was clear that the community loves and cares for its teachers and recognizes their hard work in educating and guiding its youth. 

The WSF Leadership & Education Committee is pleased to announce the 2022-2023 winners: 

  • Principal of the Year: Jeremy Mehlhoff, McVay Elementary 

    • “A true leader and pillar of Williston Schools.” - Nominator 

  • Teacher of the Year: Megan Wold, Williston High School 

    • “Her persistent dedication to serving the students of this community is immeasurable.” - Nominator 

  • Apple Award: Samantha Kalmik, substitute currently working with ASB Innovation Academy 

    • “She has dedicated 7 years to being a full-time substitute teacher, always going where she is needed, constantly wanting what is best for the students, no matter which school or classroom she is in.” - Nominator 

The WSF, WACC, their staff and boards of directors, all join the Williston community in congratulating these outstanding teachers, the nominees, and all educators and support staff, and thanking them for their dedication to their students who are the next generation of leaders in Williston and beyond.
